Area Geography

Located in sunny South Florida, the city of Fort Lauderdale lies directly between Palm Beach and Miami, sprawling over 1200 square miles with 23 miles of oceanfront scenery. Broward County, covering 1,197 square miles, has 23 miles of shoreline within 11 beachfront municipalities, with Fort Lauderdale Beach stretching on for about a mile.

The City of Fort Lauderdale, largest of Broward County’s 31 municipalities and serving as the county seat, is governed by an elected mayor and four commissioners. Broward County government consists of nine elected district commissioners, including a mayor and vice mayor.
